What is Dofollow and Nofollow?

A dofollow link is one that search engines like Google will follow to the website and give that website a little “link juice”, meaning the more dofollow links a website has going to it the better PR it will have and the more traffic it will receive in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page). But a do follow link will also drain some of the juice away from the website the link is placed on. If a website it linking to a bunch of PR0 websites then it will give the website a negative impact. This is why many bloggers have only used nofollow links on the comments page…. that and mainly to deter spammers from shamelessly promoting their junk links.

The more backlinks you have going to your site the better. A backlink is simply a link on another site that points to yours. If you have a lot of backlinks then your website looks more important to Search Engines and you can rank much better. Here is a diagram how linking works.

Wordpress Blogs and Dofollow

In wordpress blogs the default setting is to have any comments left be in the “nofollow” catefory. That simply means that the links will not have any credence or get any special powers from the search engines. They will not “follow” it so the website will retain the “link juice”.

But now that spam filters have gotten so very effective (almost too effective in even blocking valid comments) more bloggers are letting the comments have dofollow links. And this blog is one of them.

1. Login into your blogger. Usually you will bring to Dashboard after login.

4. Before removing ‘nofollow‘ attribute (as with any other template modification), it is recommended to backup you template by clicking Download Full Template and saving in the safe location on your Hard Drive. You can re-enable it if your template modification producing the errors.

The first thing to do is to compose your article, your blog post, or your web page. You can use any number of free websites to create your content. This is the first thing that needs to happen before you’ll get the benefits of social networking for your site specifically. You can always start with other people’s websites or web pages, but typically you’ll get the most benefit by doing some of both.

Once you’re ready to go with your blog post or article, you’ll need to setup new accounts with the social bookmarking sites you can find on socialmarker.com. The advantage of using a service like this is that you’ll be able to bookmark your articles or blog posts with one main website instead of having to repeat the process and visit multiple websites with each bookmarking process.

The first thing you’ll add is a title. This title should not only include the blog post title or article title, but should also include the main primary keyword phrase that you’re trying to use to get rankings. If you can start with this as your title, you’ll have a better chance of getting ranked for those keywords.

When you bookmark your site, you’ll also be prompted with a description that you’ll want to include which should have in it your keyword phrases as well. In other words, a PageRank results from a “ballot” among all the other pages on the World Wide Web about how important a page is. A hyperlink to a page counts as a vote of support. The PageRank of a page is defined recursively and depends on the number and PageRank metric of all pages that link to it (” incoming links”). A page that is linked to by many pages with high PageRank receives a high rank itself. If there are no links to a web page there is no support for that page.

Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each webpage on the Internet; this PageRank denotes a site’s importance in the eyes of Google. The scale for PageRank is logarithmic like the Richter Scale and roughly based upon quantity of inbound links as well as importance of the page providing the link.

Numerous academic papers concerning PageRank have been published since Page and Brin’s original paper.[2] In practice, the PageRank concept has proven to be vulnerable to manipulation, and extensive research has been devoted to identifying falsely inflated PageRank and ways to ignore links from documents with falsely inflated PageRank.

Article search engine optimization is rather simple, but all too often mis-understood. Several factors must be considered when trying to optimize your articles for the search engines as well as the sites that host your articles. Your article structure itself needs to focus on providing quality content and at least 500 words (recommended minimum – some sites require more or less words) within your article. Now we need to make sure that your keywords are included within your article itself. You must place plenty of variations of your keywords throughout your article, however you must make sure that it does not affect your article itself. Everything you write should still make sense and not sound like you are spamming the article with your keywords. It is recommended that you use each keyword at least 5 times within your article. So for our example, you would want to use the terms Nutrition, Cat Food, Healthy and the word Diet at least 5 times throughout your article. Doing this will help the search engine confirm that your article is actually about your title and topic. The result will be that the search engine will rank you higher within their results because of your relevancy. Without your key words within the body of your writing, you will most likely rank poorly in the search engines.

Lastly is one of the most important steps if you are promoting an article on the internet for search engine optimization purposes. When you create a link to your web site within the resources area of your article (or wherever your link is allowed), you must use key words within the link itself that is pointing to your web site. The text within a link is simply called anchor text. If you provide a link only to your web site’s address, you will not reap all of the benefits that you could if you created good anchor text within your link. A great example for our article would be the following anchor text – “Find healthy diet cat food and nutrition products”. As you can see we included all of our key words in the link text and made sure the link made sense! Sometimes this is not allowed and you can only receive a link that includes your web site address. At this point there is nothing you can do, and you will be completely fine – the search engines will still give you positive rankings regarding the article.

Hopefully this will help you to write better articles withrch engine optimization in mind.

Start by reading the DMOZ guidelines. Don’t do like me and submit a dozen sites without really paying close attention to the guidelines. I didn’t take the submission process seriously enough since I couldn’t see any clear gain in the near future.

I suggest that you research the Open Directory Project (DMOZ) and have everything written before starting the online process. Then, choose a category (see below) from the directory and click “Suggest URL”.

Let’s look at some of the most important entries.

Title

According to the guidelines, the “title should identify the site, not describe it”. The title should be informative and concise. If the site belongs to a business then the official name of the business should be used as the title. See the guidelines for more specific Here are some examples of titles from the website.

• not all caps
• the first letter of each word should be in capital, except for articles, prepositions and conjunctions
• do not use the URL as the title
• no punctuation marks or unnecessary symbols.

Description

The description should give specific information about the content and/or subject matter of the site. The description should be written for the benefit of the directory user, to give them an idea of what they will find on the website. The description:

• should be informative
• should be concise
• should not try to sell the site
• should not be stuffed with keywords
• should not repeat the title of the site
• should not use superlatives like “best” or “cheapest”
• Information that could change, such as prices, should not be included.

Category

Choose your category carefully. Find the appropriate category and drill down to the appropriate sub-category. Once there, take a look at some of the existing listings to ensure that your site fits. Submitting to the wrong category can delay your application. If your site has a regional flavor then make sure you submit it to a regional category as well. Regional submissions often make it into the directory quicker.

note : When faced with hundreds of submissions, editors tend to pick out submissions that they can process quickly. They often will add submissions that are obviously well written and follow the guidelines. If your title, description, grammar and category are wrong your application has a better chance of being put aside. Don’t worry, someone will look at it, eventually.

If you hope to get a load of returning visitors, you have to have content that poeple like and tell their friends about, and keep updating it with new things that make people want to keep going to it, and it’s gotta look good.
The better looking, the more people want to be affiliated with it. Also, make friends, and share links. Join web rings, give the links to your friends who are interested, and an interactive element like a message board, or such, will (if handled correctly) keep people coming back.
